1) Students will learn about place value.
2) Students will model numbers using base-ten blocks using Kidspiration.
3) Teacher will explain "base-ten artwork gallery" and model a piece of "artwork" for students. Teacher will tell students they will be creating their own base-ten artwork, using either paper, crayons, and base ten strips or creating artwork electronically, using Kidspiration in Math View.
4) Students will then create their own artwork using base-ten blocks

5) Students will count the base-ten blocks in their artwork and explain how much their artwork is worth in place value.
6) Students will take a video or audio recording of themselves, or write down an explanation of how they counted the base-ten blocks in their artwork to determine how much the artwork is worth
7) Teacher will introduce students to Voki, and model the creation of a Voki character.
8) Students will create their own Voki, and then the audio file of their explanation of their base-ten artwork will be attached. If laptops are available, students can record directly to Voki. Alternatively, students can type in the words they want their Voki to say, and the Voki will speak in a computerized voice.
9) The Vokis will be converted from Voki files to video files via screencast, and then uploaded onto YouTube.

The teacher will create QR codes, linking to each YouTube video. For those who would like additional information on creating QR codes, see tutorial HERE.

10) Students working in groups, depending on the number of handheld smart-devices available, will participate in the base-ten art gallery activtiy. Student artwork will be on the wall, with QR codes attached to each art piece. Students will look at each art piece and attempt to determine how much each is worth. Students will fill out a sheet with their count of the artwork's value. Then, they will scan in the QR code to go to the Voki with the student's explanation of their artwork's worth to determine if they were correct.
